Welcome Dr. Zhangfeng Zhong to the Editorial Board of Extracellular Vesicles and Circulating Nucleic Acids

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Zhangfeng Zhong, an internationally recognized scholar whose research focuses on natural products, plant-derived extracellular vesicles, and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), to the Editorial Board of Extracellular Vesicles and Circulating Nucleic Acids (EVCNA).

Dr. Zhangfeng Zhong, PhD, is an Associate Professor and PhD supervisor at City University of Macau. He is a recipient of the Hong Kong Scholar Award and has been recognized as one of the World’s Top 2% Scientists. He has conducted research and participated in academic exchanges at the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicines, Northwestern University in the United States, and the University of Hong Kong.

Dr. Zhong’s research focuses on plant-derived extracellular vesicles, natural products, and the development of innovative TCM and health products. His work also addresses key technologies for assessing the quality, efficacy, and safety of TCM products, with an emphasis on integrating traditional knowledge with modern biomedical research.

He has led more than 20 research projects funded through various competitive research programs and has published more than 130 academic papers in internationally recognized journals, including TrAC Trends in Analytical Chemistry, Advanced Science, Drug Resistance Updates, Medicinal Research Reviews, Seminars in Cancer Biology, British Journal of Pharmacology, Pharmacological Research, Drug Discovery Today, Food Chemistry, and Phytomedicine. His publications have received more than 7,600 citations, and he has an H-index of 46. He is also named as an inventor or co-inventor on more than 20 patent applications and holds software copyrights.

Dr. Zhong serves as a council member of international organizations in the fields of TCM and holds positions as an Associate Editor or Editorial Board Member of several SCI-indexed journals, including Drug Resistance Updates and EVCNA.

He has also contributed to the first national survey of TCM resources conducted in Macao. His achievements have been recognized through several honors, including the First Macao Postgraduate Scientific and Technological Research and Development Award (2012), the Hong Kong Scholar Award (2019), the International Contribution Award for Traditional Chinese Medicine (2021), and Third Prize in the National “Challenge Cup” Competition (2023).

In addition to his academic activities, Dr. Zhong is a co-founder of Aomi (Macau) Biotechnology and Haisi Biotech (Hengqin), and serves as chief developer of MTOM, a virtual screening platform for small nucleic acids.

With his interdisciplinary expertise in natural products, TCM, and plant-derived extracellular vesicles, Dr. Zhong will bring valuable insights to EVCNA and further strengthen the journal’s coverage of emerging areas in EV research. We warmly welcome Dr. Zhong to the Editorial Board and look forward to his valuable contributions to the continued growth and development of EVCNA and to the advancement of the broader EV research community.
