Special Topic Introduction

The increasingly severe environmental problems and the growing demand for sustainable energy have highlighted the urgent need for green, efficient, and renewable energy solutions, driving rapid advances in energy storage and conversion technologies. Among various energy storage devices, lithium/sodium//zinc-ion batteries, as well as metal-air batteries, have attracted extensive research interest due to their high energy density, long cycle life, and excellent rate performance. In energy conversion systems, water-splitting technologies and fuel cells are poised to become mainstream renewable energy solutions once their manufacturing costs reach economic feasibility. However, the development of these advanced energy technologies relies heavily on innovations in materials chemistry. In particular, the development of high-performance electrode materials remains critical to meeting the growing demand for large-scale energy storage and conversion applications.

Recent advances in materials science and nanotechnology have deepened our understanding of controllable synthesis, working mechanisms, and structure-activity relationships in electrode materials. Motivated by these developments, this Special Issue aims to stimulate further research and address key scientific and technological challenges in energy storage and conversion systems. We welcome original research articles focused on advanced materials for energy storage devices (e.g., lithium/sodium/zinc-ion batteries, solid-state batteries, metal-air batteries) and energy conversion devices (e.g., oxygen evolution reaction/hydrogen evolution reaction (OER/HER) catalysts, fuel cells).

Keywords

Advanced energy storage materials, Li/Na/Zn-ion batteries, Metal-air batteries, Solid-state batteries, Electrocatalytic materials, HER/OER catalysts, Material synthesis, Characterization techniques, Hydrogen generation, Energy storage applications
