Special Topic Introduction
The escalating accumulation of persistent pollutants in water and air is causing serious harm to ecosystems worldwide and posing a growing risk to human health. Photocatalysis has emerged as an eco‑friendly strategy for the degradation of these contaminants. However, traditional catalysts often perform poorly in practice due to their limited specific surface area, weak interactions with target pollutants, and rapid recombination of photogenerated charges. Porous photocatalysts, such as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), covalent organic frameworks (COFs), porous graphitic carbon nitride (g‑C3N4), and hierarchical nanomaterials, offer effective solutions to these drawbacks. Their ultra‑high specific surface areas, abundant active sites, and tailorable pore architectures collectively enhance light harvesting, facilitate mass transport, and improve adsorption capability, thereby significantly boosting photocatalytic efficiency.
This Special Issue aims to highlight recent advances in the design, synthesis, and mechanistic understanding of porous photocatalysts for environmental remediation and pollutant valorization. By bringing together cutting‑edge studies, it seeks to bridge the gap between laboratory‑scale discoveries and practical, sustainable technologies, thereby promoting interdisciplinary approaches for a cleaner and healthier future.
