Special Topic Introduction

Autonomous flight and swarm coordination performed by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in complex low-altitude environments are becoming increasingly demanding, placing higher requirements on intelligent control, robustness, and autonomous decision making. Recent progress in methods - such as swarm intelligence optimization, reinforcement learning, and bio-inspired control - has shown strong potential to enhance the performance of multi-UAV systems in formation maintenance, obstacle avoidance, task allocation, and high-speed maneuvering.

This Special Issue focuses on core technologies that enable intelligent and reliable low-altitude UAV system, covering key areas including autonomous control, collaborative decision making, environmental perception and modeling, as well as fault-tolerant and event-triggered control. We welcome original research articles and high-quality reviews presenting innovative methods or insightful advances related to multi-UAV coordination, human-UAV collaboration, and complex low-altitude operations.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

● Autonomous control and formation maintenance of multi-UAV/swarm systems;

● Human-UAV collaborative decisionmaking and command strategies;

● Applications of reinforcement learning and bio-inspired algorithms in low-altitude missions;

● Autonomous path planning and obstacle avoidance in low-altitude environments;

● Event-triggered control, fault-tolerant control, and robustness analysis;

● Perception, modeling, and task allocation in complex three-dimensional environments;

● Collaboration and distributed controlwithin heterogeneous UAV systems;

● Algorithm transfer from simulation to real-flight validation.

Keywords

Low-altitude control, UAV systems, swarm intelligence, autonomous decision making, reinforcement learning, bio-inspired optimization, formation maintenance, event-triggered control, robust control, multi-UAV cooperation
