Special Issue Introduction
Background and Rationale:
As an autosomal inherited disease, accurate diagnosis and timely treatment are key for effective clinical management of Wilson’s disease. Appropriate management strategies directly influence patients’ long-term outcomes and quality of life. Despite advances in diagnostic technologies and therapeutic interventions, significant gaps remain in translating early recognition into optimal management. The precise molecular pathways from copper accumulation to tissue damage are also not fully elucidated. This Special Issue aims to provide an update on recent research into the pathophysiology of Wilson’s disease and evidence-based treatment.
Objectives:
● To summarize current knowledge of the molecular basis of Wilson's disease;
● To highlight the latest advances in diagnostic technologies and methodologies;
● To evaluate novel therapeutic strategies and their real-world applicability;
● To encourage interdisciplinary collaboration to optimize patient care from detection through treatment;
● To explore cutting-edge research on gene editing, cell therapies, and personalized medicine approaches that may define the next era of treatment.
Topics Covered:
● Mechanisms or molecular foundations of copper-induced cellular injury;
● Clinical algorithms linking diagnosis to tailored management strategies;
● Case studies showcasing successful transitions from detection to therapy;
● Therapeutic innovations and their integration into clinical practice;
● Multidisciplinary approaches to improve patient outcomes.
