Special Topic Introduction
Soft micro-/meso-/nanorobots have emerged as a transformative class of intelligent biomedical systems with enormous potential for precision medicine and minimally invasive interventions. Owing to their compliant structures, adaptive locomotion, and multifunctional integration, these miniature robots can navigate complex biological environments with reduced tissue damage and enhanced operational flexibility compared with conventional rigid devices. Recent advances in soft materials, bioinspired design, wireless actuation, intelligent control, and micro/nanofabrication technologies have significantly accelerated the development of soft robotic systems for a wide range of biomedical applications.
This Special Issue, entitled "Soft Micro-/Meso-/Nanorobots for Biomedical Applications," aims to highlight the latest advances in the design, fabrication, actuation, sensing, control, and biomedical implementation of soft robotic systems operating at micro-, meso-, and nanoscale dimensions. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, magnetically, acoustically, optically, chemically, or biologically driven micro-/meso-/nanorobots; biohybrid and stimuli-responsive robotic systems; targeted drug delivery and precision therapy; minimally invasive surgery; medical imaging and biosensing; swarm robotics for biomedical tasks; and translational challenges toward clinical applications.
By bringing together interdisciplinary contributions from materials science, robotics, biomedical engineering, and medicine, this Special Issue seeks to provide a comprehensive platform for discussing emerging concepts, technological innovations, and future perspectives in soft micro-/meso-/nanorobotics for biomedical applications. We hope this collection will foster interdisciplinary collaborations and accelerate the clinical translation of next-generation soft robotic technologies.
Key areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
● Design and fabrication of soft micro-/meso-/nanorobots;
● Wireless actuation, navigation, and intelligent control;
● Biohybrid and stimuli-responsive robotic systems;
● Medical sensing, imaging, and diagnostics;
● Targeted drug delivery and precision therapy;
● Minimally invasive surgery and interventional robotics;
● Swarm micro-/meso-/nanorobotics for biomedical applications.
● Clinical translation and regulatory challenges.
